LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu, a 21-year-old was crowned Miss Universe 2021 at the grand finale held in Eilat, Israel on Monday. It’s a win-win situation for India. How it feels to get the much-awaited crown back to the country after long, she might be delighted indeed. Before Sandhu, actors Sushmita Sen in 1994 and Lara Dutta in 2000 were the only two Indians to have won the title of Miss Universe. Andrea Meza from Mexico, Miss Universe 2020 presented her with the crown.
Who is Harnaaz Sandhu?
Harnaaz Sandhu was born on March 3, 2000, in Chandigarh in a Sikh family. She attended Shivalik Public School, Chandigarh, and got post graduated from Government College for Girls, Chandigarh. Sandhu can speak well in English, Punjabi, and Hindi.
This young woman, Harnaaz who hails from Chandigarh grew up watching all of Bollywood numbers. From being herself called a “fun girl” to have a passion for modeling, acting, dancing, swimming, and horseback riding her journey certainly is significant.

In a recent interview with Harnaaz’s brother, Harnoor, he shared the immense contentment on his sister’s big victory. A proud brother, who is a video and music producer, added “I am feeling very proud. I always knew that she had a passion for modeling, acting, and dance. Now, it’s lovely to see her live her dream of becoming a beauty queen.”

Talking about her so far promising journey, Harnaaz has already won multiple pageant titles under her credit, including LIVA Miss Diva Universe 2021, Times fresh face Miss Chandigarh in 2017, Miss Max Emerging Star India in 2018 and crowned as Femina Miss India Punjab in 2019.
Harnaaz mentioned in her Miss Universe delegate bio that it’s her mother (a successful gynecologist) who is her biggest inspiration. This has been the inspiration for Harnaaz to support women’s reasons and boost women’s empowerment. A firm believer of women’s constitutional rights to education, careers, and freedom of choice, she has always stood up for the right.

Sandhu in her introductory speech during the Miss Diva Universe 2021 grand finale said, “From a young girl with fragile mental health who faced bullying and body shaming to a woman who emerged like a phoenix, realizing her true potential. From an individual who once doubted her own existence to a woman who is aspiring to inspire the youth. Today, I stand proudly in front of the Universe as a courageous, vivacious, and compassionate woman who is all set to lead a life with a purpose, and to leave behind a remarkable legacy.”
During the final question and answer round at Miss Diva Universe 2021, Sandhu chose the topic ‘Global Warming and Climate Change’ and conveyed, “One day, life will flash before your eyes, make sure it’s worth watching. However, this is not the life you want to watch, where the climate is changing, and the environment is dying. It is one of the fiascos that we humans have done to the environment. I do believe that we still have time to undo our irresponsible behavior. Earth is all we have in common and our small acts as individuals when multiplied by billions can transform the whole world. Start now, from tonight, switch off those extra lights when not in use. Thank you.
