Femina is India’s first and most widely read women’s English magazine, redefining the essence of Indian beauty for nearly two decades. Femina.in, which is now available in digital form, covers a wide range of fashion-related topics such as food, travel, celebrities, and so on. The magazine was first published in July 1959 by The Times Group. Femina has been the organizer and sponsor of the Miss India beauty pageant since 1964.
MISS INDIA PAGEANT BRIEF HISTORY
- Pramila, Esther Victoria Abraham, was the first-ever Miss India, having won the title in 1947. Femina did not organize the pageant at the time because it was hosted by a local press.
- Nutan and Indrani Rehman were crowned Miss India in 1952 when two Miss India pageants were held for the first time.
- Indrani Rahman represented India in the first-ever Miss Universe pageant in 1962.
- The winners and runners-up of Miss India were sent to Miss Universe and Miss Asia Pacific, respectively.
- In 1994, Sushmita Sen became the country’s first woman to win the Miss Universe pageant. She previously won Femina Miss India 1994 when she was 18 years old.
- In 2000, the three Miss India winners, Dia Mirza, Priyanka Chopra, and Lara Dutta, won the prestigious international pageants Miss Asia Pacific, Miss World, and Miss Universe respectively.
