Bollywood fans everywhere will tell you without a doubt that Govinda was the king of comedy. In the 90s and early 2000s, he was unstoppable, with movies like ‘Coolie No. 1’, ‘Hero No.1’, and ‘Hassena Maan Jaayegi’ winning hearts everywhere. At 60 years old, he was more than just a star—he was a superstar!
In the early 2000s, Govinda’s acting journey took a turn for the worse. His once-successful career began to decline, and as the mid-2000s approached, he shifted his focus to politics, disappearing from the film industry.

However, after his political stint into politics, Govinda decided to return to the world of cinema. Yet, he found that the level of success he enjoyed in the 1990s was no longer within his grasp.

Because of this, many of the movies where he played the main role didn’t do well in cinemas. Only two films, ‘Bhaagam Bhaag’ in 2006 and ‘Partner’ in 2007, became hits in the past twenty years. This is quite different from his earlier days when he was very successful.
Sometimes in Bollywood, things don’t go as planned. Govinda faced challenges in his career. While some say Bollywood might have been unfair to him, his own decisions also mattered.
Here, we’ll talk about five big movies that Govinda said no to, for different reasons.
Top 5 Blockbuster Movie Projects That Govinda Allegedly Rejected
1. Gadar (2001)
Back in 1998, during the filming of the movie ‘Maharaja,’ director Anil Sharma shared the storyline of ‘Gadar’ with Govinda. However, Govinda wasn’t too enthusiastic about it.
He mentioned that the story included a considerable amount of harsh language and controversial political themes, which didn’t align with his preferences.
Consequently, he decided not to take up the offer, preferring roles that were less controversial and more in line with his style.

2. Devdas (2002)
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the famous director, approached Govinda for the role of Chunni Babu in a big movie. This role later went to Jackie Shroff. Govinda, who was a very famous actor back then, said no to the role.
He didn’t want to play a supporting character because he was a superstar. Govinda insisted that if he was going to do the movie, Shah Rukh Khan, another big star, should personally ask him to do it. But this didn’t happen, so Govinda turned down the role.
