Evolution of Miss India Pageant
Miss India has been running for the last six decades, changing the lives of many bright young women. The organizer of the contest is Femina, a women’s magazine owned by Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd. From 1964 to 1975, the Miss India winner represented Miss Universe, while the runner-up was sent to Miss Asia Pacific.
In I976, Miss India was awarded the Miss World Franchise, and three winners were selected for Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss Asia Pacific subsequently.

In 1994, India made history when Sushmita Sen, a winner of Miss India 1994, won the Miss Universe crown, and Aishwarya Rai, the first runner-up of the Femina Miss India was crowned Miss World 1994.
In 2022, Miss India sent the second runner-up to Miss Earth, and later in 2010, the third winner went to Miss international pageant. Between 2007-2009 three winners were chosen for Miss Universe, Miss World, and Miss Earth.
The three winners to win their international pageants in 2000 were Miss Universe Lara Dutta, Priyanka Chopra as Miss World, and Dia Mirza as Miss Pacific.
The pageant aims to bring forward those elegant class of Indian women who has the potential to change. They can represent the nation on the global stage. In its hybrid form, the pageant launches a talent hunt all over the nation to find prospective talents through virtual auditions.
There is an extensive scouting drive, and interview rounds culminate with the selection of 31 state winners. These women are currently undergoing rigorous training and grooming drills with the support of industrial experts.
