In an exclusive conversation with Indian Express, Bajpayee opened up about how his lack of involvement in Bollywood’s social scene has nothing to do with controversies but rather stems from his personal preferences. “Now, people don’t even invite me anymore, because they have realized why my absence might be seen as offensive or humiliating, which I am very happy with. Please don’t call me because I like to sleep by 10-10:30 pm, and I’m always looking forward to my early mornings,” he shared candidly.
The actor, best known for his iconic roles in Gangs of Wasseypur, Satya, and Satyameva Jayate, also touched on how some might perceive him as arrogant. However, he clarified that his refusal to attend parties or engage in the Bollywood social circuit is a result of his commitment to personal boundaries and a busy professional life. He explained, “I fiercely protect my privacy. If some people think it’s arrogance, I’m fine with that.”
While his circle of close friends in the industry is small, Bajpayee made it clear that he values meaningful relationships over social appearances. He mentioned friends like director Sharib Hashmi and actors Kay Kay Menon and Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who share similar values and understand his approach to life and work.
Despite his somewhat reserved public persona, Bajpayee emphasized that he is far from aloof. “Once people sit with me and get to know me, they will understand my true nature. I’m not arrogant; I’m just someone who values his self-respect and privacy.”
