Abhay Deol Starrer Netflix Series Trial By Fire is ready for a premiere on 13th January 2022. It is directed by Prashant Nair and inspired by the best-seller book, ‘Trial by Fire: The Tragic Tale of the Uphaar Fire Tragedy by Neelam Krishnamoorthy and her husband Shekhar Krishnamoorthy.
The series unfolds the relentless legal battle of the parents. The couple wrote in their book soon after mourning, they took it upon themselves for a long-drawn legal, not for monetary compensation but to ensure justice. They claim victims should get justice.
Background
13th June 1997 was a tragic day for Neelam and Shekhar Krishnamoorthy when they lost their children in the fire that engulfed Uphaar Cinema Hall. Audiences were enjoying the year’s biggest Bollywood blockbuster, Border. But their enjoyment dashed to dust as the transformer got fire which spread all over, ending the lives of many while leaving others injured.
The series is a story of devastated parents whose children were also present at the cinema hall at that time and could hardly save themselves. From that day onwards, Neelam and her husband Shekhar Krishnamoorthy never stepped foot in any movie theater but started taking unending rounds of the courts.
They do not know the laws or any understanding of the difference between a civil and a criminal case, still, they took a legal course for justice. It was after 24 years of court trials, tribulations, and struggles of the parents brought the couple some relief as the Uphaar’s owners Susil and Gopal Ansal got convicted of seven years in prison on 8th November 2021.

Prashant Nair wonderfully captured the heartbreaking yet resilient journey of the parents who lost their two children to the fire. The Series presents the endless trials in pursuit of justice for more than 24 years while also displaying the lives of the other people who were touched and devastated by the unfortunate incident.
