Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has had a career filled with highs and lows, much like a thrilling roller-coaster ride. While he delivered several hits, including the memorable Shootout at Lokhandwala in 2007, his journey has not been without challenges. Recently, Vivek opened up about the insecurities of the film industry, recounting a tough phase when he faced nearly 15 months of unemployment despite the massive success of his film.
In an interview, Vivek candidly shared how the industry’s unpredictability affected him deeply. “I’ve done about 67 projects in 22 years, but the industry is a very insecure place. You can be winning awards, performing well, and yet find yourself with no work for reasons beyond your control,” he said.

Post-Shootout at Lokhandwala, where his performance and the viral hit song Ganpat earned him accolades, Vivek found himself surprisingly jobless. Reflecting on that period, he revealed, “I expected a flood of offers after the film’s success, but instead, I sat at home for 14-15 months.”
This challenging phase led him to reevaluate his future. In 2009, Vivek made a life-changing decision: he ventured into business to achieve economic independence. He realized he could no longer rely solely on the unpredictable film industry. This shift not only gave him the freedom to chart his own path but also helped him escape the pressures of industry lobbies and compromises.
Bollywood’s Insecurity and His Game-Changing Plan B
“Cinema will always be my passion, but I needed a Plan B,” Vivek explained. “Building my independence allowed me to say no to anything that didn’t align with my values. I wasn’t willing to sell my soul just to secure work.”
Now, with over two decades in Bollywood, Vivek reflects on his journey with wisdom. “The stress and tension I carried during that time weren’t worth it. Life is about balance and making the right choices. Success may look shiny on the outside, but it doesn’t guarantee peace within,” he said.
As he prepares for three upcoming projects, including the comedy Masti 4 directed by Milap Zaveri and co-starring Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani, Vivek is focusing on expanding his ventures and maintaining his hard-won independence.
For Vivek Oberoi, the road hasn’t been easy, but his journey stands as a testament to resilience and the power of forging one’s own path.
